Harriet HancockThe Center is named for the founder of the Center and SC Pride, Harriet Hancock. In 1982, Harriet started the Columbia, SC chapter of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) after her son came out to her. Since then, she has been a dedicated activist working to secure full civil and human rights for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community.
